About the program:

The Literacy Council provides free and confidential training, materials, and support for adults with limited reading and English language skills.

Services are provided through trained volunteers and staff, and are offered in small groups or in a one-on-one setting. Services include: pre-GED and GED studies, English as a Second Language, basic Literacy, adult basic education, family literacy and workplace literacy.

Volunteer opportunities include becoming a Literacy Tutor in GED Studies, English as a Second Language, or Basic Literacy. As a volunteer tutor, you will be supported by other dedicated, caring and committed volunteers who will train you to be an effective and competent tutor, to provide all the materials you and your student(s) will need, and support you in any way possible. Volunteers can also assist the Literacy Council by providing special services. For more information on volunteer opportunities please contact Ellen Hossman at ehossman@tds.net

The Council is funded through donations and grants. The Council appreciates the support provided by the United Way of Green County, WalMart, Blackhawk Technical College, and the Community Foundation of Southern Wisconsin.
