A Renovated Library
The renovations we need are all designed to make the library an extraordinary place—more welcoming and able to serve people in new ways that bring us all together.  The Library Board of Trustees and Staff heard what the community wants, then had conceptual plans developed to reflect the community’s perspective. Monroe wants a building that will enhance downtown and provide opportunities for people of all ages, encouraging people to move here and to stay here.

The features that will be part of the planned renovations meet these criteria.  They are on all three floors and include:
  • Redesigned entry and lobby
  • Additional meeting rooms and storage
  • Flexible space to accommodate a broader variety of community functions
  • Renovations to the Genealogy area
  • Enhanced study rooms
  • Enhanced restrooms on the lower level and near the first floor lobby
  • Revisions to the open stairs that connect the first and second floors
  • Renovations to the Children’s Room, including a new sculptural entrance
  • Renovations in the Adult Fiction area, including a Quiet Reading Room
  • Enlarged and enhanced space for the Literacy Council
  • Enhanced lighting
  • New Circulation Desk to better serve patrons

The total cost of these renovations is $1,500,000.

A group of community volunteers is working with the Library Director and staff on the “Let’s Do Something Extraordinary for Monroe” capital campaign.  The campaign is to raise private funds for the areas in the Library that really need renovating.  There will be no impact on taxes.

With your help, we know we can do this!
