Entry & Lobby
For some Monroe residents, and many visitors, the first and only impression of the library they have is the view of the first floor from the entryway. As a free, open building on the Historic Square, people regularly pop in when they’re downtown for other reasons. The first impression we make on these visitors is important, both for creating a positive association with the downtown area and to encourage them to visit again.
The entryway appears lovely, full of glass and light. However, navigating the multiple doors in the small space can be difficult for people using wheelchairs, walkers, and strollers. The doors also have worn-out locks, causing frustration for staff.
In the large lobby, people often wait and work before the library opens. Access to seating and wireless internet in this area is a benefit for many community members.
